Capital check gates sealed
ITANAGAR, Dec 27: In view of apprehension of possible infiltration of miscreants

On Saturday, DC, Capital Complex, Mige Kamki and SP D. Mishra along with Police force carried out joint patrolling in Itanagar and Naharlagun. The DC appealed to public in general to cooperate with Police and Magistrate on duty while checking vehicles or any other locations.
"In case any unclaimed bag or suspected material is noticed in any place, nearest Police Station should be informed. It is further appealed that no strangers should be harboured or employed without prior police verification" the DC said in a message.
Vehicular movement restricted
ITANAGAR, Dec 27: Movement of all type of vehicles from Arunachal Pradesh via Naharkatia, Assam to Tirap, Longding and other eastern districts were restricted at Jaipur, Assam by some groups in protest against alleged attack on few Assamese labourers at Nakfan, Longding district yesterday.
The road blockade forced the vehicles from Arunachal to take alternative road via Margherita to reach their respective destinations.
According to sources, nine labourers from Assam were allegedly attacked by some miscreants at Nakfan under Longding district yesterday. However, the case has been reportedly solved, informed Additional SP of Tirap without elaborating.
One dies in road accident
ITANAGAR, Dec 27: A man has died in a road accident at Saidel near Ziro Point, West Kameng Dist on Dec 24. One person is missing while another has been shifted to Guwahati for further treatment.

CS to attend PM’s meet on ‘Make in India’
NAHARLAGUN, Dec 27: Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi will attend the meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 'Make in India' programme in New Delhi on December 29 where Chief Secretaries of all the states will attend.
The meeting is being organized in order to give a proper direction to one of the top economic agendas of the Prime Minister by consulting experts and top bureaucrats to improve the manufacturing sector.

Social worker passes away
ITANAGAR, Dec 27: Hage Tatung, son of late Hage Khoda, a prominent contractor, businessman and social worker, died on Friday at a City Hospital after a prolonged illness.
He is survived by two wives, 4 sons, 8 daughters and many grand children.
Tatung was also the founder member of Dree Celebration at Capital Complex.
Fuel quality safe, says officers
PASIGHAT, Dec 27: Following a complaint from a consumer regarding existence of adulteration in petrol and diesel at petrol pumps, a team of officials from department of District Food & Civil Supply Office Pasighat made an unannounced checking of all petrol depots across Pasighat yeserday. The team of officials led by DFCSO B. Pertin checked the quality of the petrol and diesel besides licensing documents.

Tawang Monastery commemorate 55th year of His Holiness's arrival in India
Mundgod, Karnataka Dec 27: While speaking at an event to commemorate the 55th year of His Holiness arrival and first preaching at Tawang monastery in 1959, XIV Dalai Lama said that Arunachal Pradesh was special to him.
"You should not only preserve but also promote your age old culture and tradition" advised His Holiness while recollecting his journey to India through Tawang and West Kameng districts in Arunachal Pradesh. He said that he was ready for any support from his side.
The event was organised by the Tendhon Culture Preservation Society of Tawang monastery today to mark the day at Gaden Jangtse Monastery.
The function was conducted on the sidelines of Lamrin Preaching of His Holiness, which was attended by a large number of dignitaries, monks and nun and devotees from across the world.
The legislators of Tawang and West Kameng districts and Abbot of Tawang monastery Guru Tulku presented a souvenir to His Holiness the Dalai Lama to mark the historic occasion.
His Holiness expressed his pleasure over the gesture from the leaders of Arunachal Pradesh and the Union MoS as well as the Government of Karnataka for the help and support to the Tibetans.
Addressing the gathering the Union MoS for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju thanked His Holiness for his kind gesture towards the people of the State of Arunachal Pradesh. "We might have lost Tibet but we have the Dalai Lama" said Rijiju while ensuring all out efforts and assistance to His Holiness and his people in India. In his speech, Pema Khandu, Minister UD, Tourism, Art & Culture, who is also the chief patron of Tendhon Culture Preservation Society said that the people of Mon Region of Arunachal Pradesh were fortunate to have been blessed by His Holiness with his first ever preaching in exile at Tawang monastery 55 years ago in 1959. While hailing His Holiness as the apostle of peace and a spiritual leader of foremost order in the world the Minister also commended his advice for rationale and scientific analysis of Buddhist religious scriptures.
He read out the message of Chief Minister Arunachal Pradesh Nabam Tuki sent for the occasion.

Media has to work under parameters: Legal expert
Itanagar, Dec 27 : Media has to perform its duty within certain restrictions to avoid any contempt of court, noted Arunachal Law Academy, Assistant Professor Navin Sinha here today.
“There is no special principle attached to the press to comment, criticize or investigate the facts of any case...”
“No editor has a right to assume the role of investigator to try to prejudice the court against any person,” he said while addressing an orientation programme on media rights and legal services at Arunachal Press Club (APC) here this morning.
The orientation programme was conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in coordination with APC for the scribes of the state.
APSLSA member secretary Budi Habung, who is also the session judge, while highlighting the various facilities of the authority, informed that so far the APSLSA has conducted 283 awareness campaigns besides providing legal aids to 446 persons and had settled 3,411 pending cases through Lok Adalat.
He further informed that since its inception in 1998 to November this year, an amount of Rs 1.69 crore has been paid as compensation to victims of any violence. The APSLSA has been providing free legal aid through counselling, assistance in the conduct of any cases and disputes, organizing Lok Adalats, settling matrimonial disputes, spreading legal awareness on issues of social and legal importance besides rendering free legal aid to the prisoners and UTPs, he disclosed.
He said cases like defamation, malicious prosecution, contempt of court proceedings, election disputes and cases involving economic offences and social laws were not under the purview of availing legal aid.
APSLSA OSD Dani Belo called for creating more awareness on Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme for the people from the marginal level. Belo disclosed that 14 people have applied for claims since its inception in 2012 with the APSLSA. The time frame for processing of an application and granting of the compensation takes around three to five months, which needs to be shortened by creating a corpus fund, added Belo.

‘Involve local people in conservation of forest, rare species’
PASIGHAT, Dec 27: Chief Councilor of Pasighat Municipality Denong Tamuk stressed the need of involving local people in the protection and conservation of forest and endangered wildlife species.
Wildlife officials should sensitize the local people to learn about nature and ongoing efforts to protect rare and endangered species and their habitats, said the PMC chief while visiting the Daying Ering Wildlife Sanctuary along with Director (Town Planning & Urban Bodies) Amoy Morang, Wildlife Scientist Dr. BB Bhatt, DFO (WL) Tashi Mize, MEO Nixon Lego and all ward councilors.

Senior scientist Dr. Batt, a conservationist by profession working for preservation of rich species of the sanctuary and translocation project, stated that sincere participation of local community is very important to support the ongoing efforts to protect the rare species and their habitats. He informed that many migratory birds are observed flocking to the sanctuary every year due its favorable environment.

Efforts to ensure proper sanitation and water supply facility
ITANAGAR, Dec 27: To ensure safe and sustainable water supply and proper sanitation facilities to the residents of West Kameng, the Public Health Engineering Department and District Water and Sanitation Committee launched intensive IEC campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in rural areas of the district on December 23.
Executive Engineer, PHED, Bomdila division Likha Tekhi along with division level consultants visited Rahung and Namshu Gram Panchayats under Dirang block and inspected various activities being carried out under SBM.
Addressing a mammoth gathering at Rahung, Executive Engineer Tekhi informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set 2019 as the target to achieve total sanitation as a befitting tribute to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his to 150th anniversary.
We still have miles to go to achieve total sanitation though three decades have passed since sanitation campaign was launched in the country with different names. The Prime Minister launched the Swachh Bharat Mission this year to accelerate the total sanitation mission, he informed.
Sanitation can't be achieved without water and improper sanitation practice causes poor health, he said while explaining the relationship among water, sanitation and health. He suggested the villagers to construct individual household latrines and maintain high degree of health and sanitation practices to avoid some common water borne diseases.
Zilla Parishad Member of Thembang Block Jam Tsering appealed to all the PRI members and general public of Namshu to avail the opportunities being provided by the department and make Namshu as a model village.
